The leaves had just begun to change the week leading into Abbé and Carter’s engagement session, and created the perfect backdrop for their pictures at Mellon Park! What I love most about this couple is how sweet they are together- you can see their eyes light up when they look at each other, how tenderly they hug, how well they listen to one another. They make each other happy. And that is what it is all about.

Q: Tell us how you met!
A: We met on eharmony!
Q: When was your first date and what did you do?
A: For our first date, we met at Cadillac Ranch in Robinson Township – we wanted something casual and that wouldn’t be so quiet that any awkward silences would be super obvious. We had dinner and then spontaneously decided to go see a movie, which would be a key component in our relationship because we have taken turns picking the movie we see when we go to a theater since this first date! The thing that probably sticks out the most in both of our minds about this first date is that I wouldn’t hug Carter before we parted for the evening because I was so cold. Carter would tell you that he thought I just didn’t want to hug him, but he soon found out that I really am always cold and wasn’t just using it as an excuse! After I got home that evening, I texted Carter to make sure he made it back to Morgantown, WV safely. We went on our second date the following weekend and the rest is history!
Q: How did you know he/she was the one?
A: I think we both just sort of always knew. There wasn’t one particular moment or one action on Carter’s part that made me think, “Oh, yes, s/he is the one.” It seems to just have been this low hum in the background all along. This question has always been hard for both of us to answer because there isn’t a specific answer or single moment that sticks out. Our wanting to grow old together seems to have always existed somehow.
Q: What was the date of the proposal? Give us details!
A: Carter proposed on April 20, 2014 (Easter Sunday!) He had asked my parents for their permission and blessing to ask me to marry him like two weeks before he actually proposed. Carter and I had gone ring shopping together, though I didn’t know what ring he would ultimately choose. As we approached Easter weekend, Carter told me that he had in fact ordered my engagement ring, but that it would not be ready for several weeks. So, I knew the question was coming in the near future, I just did not anticipate it being so close in time. Carter and I ran various errands Easter weekend, and nothing seemed to be unusual – he was acting the same and he did not even shave his beard, so I figured nothing special was happening. Even on Easter Sunday before we left for my grandmother’s house for dinner, Carter was calm and acted as casually as he probably could. Then, before we left for dinner, my mother asked for Carter and I to take a picture together – this was not unusual because she always takes pictures during holidays. After we took the picture, I started to walk away until Carter grabbed my hand and said, “I have a question to ask you.” The next thing I know is that he was down on one knee and asking me to marry him! The rest of the day is just a happy blur of celebrating with family and calling friends to let them know the good news.
